When applying for a job in a corporation or for a managerial position in a large organization, as a rule, one of the interview stages will be an assessment center. This is an extensive and complex procedure for evaluating a candidate, which includes various tasks - cases, exercises and role-playing games. How everything is arranged from the inside and what you can expect - we tell you in the article.

What is an assessment center?
The core of the technology is a set of selected competencies for a position, with the help of which a specialist can successfully perform duties. The list may include a wide variety of skills, such as customer focus, communication literacy, leadership, emotional intelligence, information analysis and decision making.

For each competency, specific indicators are defined - positive and negative. It is by them that the recruiter evaluates the specialist. For example, for the skill of communication literacy, a negative social media marketing service indicator would be slow and incoherent speech, long pauses in conversation. A positive indicator would be confident intonation, the absence of unjustified gaps in speech.

How everything works from the inside
An assessment centre is usually held in specially equipped rooms where candidates gather together to take tests and tasks. The centre employs professional assessors who observe each specialist and analyse their abilities.

Typically, an assessment center consists of several stages, which include group and individual tasks, interviews, role-playing games and other forms of assessment. Each task has its own purpose and allows the employer to get a more complete picture of the candidate.

How does an assessment center work?
At the assessment center, you may be given various tasks and tests that are aimed at checking skills and qualities. Here are the most common ones.

Group tasks - candidates work in a team and solve assigned tasks together.
Written tests - test literacy, analytical and creative skills.
Role-playing games - candidates play a specific role and solve situational problems.
Going through an assessment center can be an interesting and useful experience for every candidate. It allows you not only to show your skills and qualities, but also to learn more about yourself. Therefore, you should not be afraid of the assessment center, but rather prepare for it in advance.
